PTSA Success Story: BLS Classroom

This fall and winter the PTSA has been especially happy to help our Basic Life Skills classes revamp their classroom to meet the varied needs of their students. All told, this year the PTSA has provided more than $9,000 for the classroom transformation. “This feels like a perfect application of our mission, to enhance the educational experience of our students and faculty at Northwood,” said Northwood PTSA President Duncan Murrell. “This is exactly the sort of project we want to support.

BLS teacher Amy Turner had her own thoughts about it:

”The PTSA has been essential in allowing me to create a second classroom space to meet the needs of students requiring a greater amount of structure and sensory support,” Turner said. “PTSA funded rocking chairs, ball chairs, a trampoline, and furniture for structured work spaces to create a sensory-friendly environment. In addition, the PTSA provided funding for a pre-vocational curriculum in the form of hands-on task boxes used to provide students with greater opportunities to develop the skills necessary for post-secondary employment. The PTSA's support has been transformational for the Basic Life Skills program at Northwood and will continue to make an impact in the years to come.”

This is just one of the many things your PTSA does to support Northwood, and we’ll bringing you some stories of some of those other projects in the coming weeks.

But we can’t do it without your help. We are desperately in need of more parents, faculty, and students to join the Northwood PTSA so that we can do our work. Joining is easy, cheap, and only requires that you come to an online meeting a few times a year. Will you join us? We need you! Get your membership at https://www.northwoodhighptsa.org/join !
